How can connection with nature support me in the grief process?
I would like to learn some new tools and ways of coping.
How can I relate with my grief in a life-sustaining way?
I need some time away from the stress of daily life for reflection,
to regain some ground, and try to make some sense of it all.
I have difficulty staying motivated... with so much
sad news today how can I stay hopeful?
What is the connection between grief and joy?
GriefRites is a 7-day supportive journey in nature for people who are experiencing grief related to:
- The death of a loved one
- Divorce, or the end of a relationship
- Pet loss
- Current social or global issues such as war, poverty, environmental degradation
- Life transition
The dramatic and expansive landscape of Vedauwoo, Wyoming will be the backdrop for an introspective and nurturing journey into how we manage our grief and use it to deepen our connection to this life. Throughout the week we will learn how to express and cope with grief through nature-based practices, ritual and ceremony, and creative expression. The trip will include individual time with your guides, who are both counselors with extensive backgrounds in grief and loss, and also time in a group setting. A supportive community is essential for working through grief and we will spend time sharing stories and exploring this profound human experience. An optional 2-day solo and fast is also part of this journey. Basic camping and backpacking skills will be taught as part of the trip for those with little or no outdoor experience.
Traveling together through the wilderness of grief, we intend to:
- Offer landmarks in the grief process, helping you to navigate the terrain of grief
- Teach coping skills specific to spending time in nature that will help you to manage more easily
- Support you in moving forward into your next life phase
- Explore self-generated ceremony as a way to mark transition
- Use creative arts as a means of expression
- Offer an optional 2-day rites of passage solo
A journey of healing, meaning-making and stepping into your next life phase.
Explore the mysterious relationship between grief and joy.
